mY areas OF focus

Public Health Campaigns

I have a wealth of experience promoting population and community health through the lens of the social determinants of health. My approaches centre advocacy, the empowerment of people using community led approaches, capacity building, and other evidence based techniques. These focus on sustainability and use multiple modalities to achieve community led and agreed goals. I have planned and implemented programs and campaigns targeting Caribbean and UK audiences, particularly with and for marginalised groups, for example leading the Access Sex Health Campaign, #ThinkFamilyPlanning and Anti-Colourism Campaign.

I am a skilled communicator, with varied experiences in managing public perception and conveying key messages using a range of media platforms. I am able to communicate complex information to a diverse audience, using storytelling and human connection in my presentations. I have developed and hosted workshops, spoken at international conferences, and done media interviews both live and recorded. In alignment with my strong values for meaningful community engagement, my community communication approaches centre dialogue, shared learning and relationship building. This is guided by my formal training in effective communication techniques.

My work centres designing, managing, and implementing programs and projects to improve health outcomes for people. I am able to appropriately scope, map, and identify appropriate resources, and set clear objectives and milestones using a participatory methodology. This includes, employing measurement tools to determine the success of interventions, building stakeholder and communication strategies, budgeting, change management processes, risk register, and governance and assurance frameworks. I have experience identifying, collecting, interpreting, managing data, following appropriate compliance protocols, in order to guide decision making, planning, and implementation to improve health outcomes. I am formally trained in project management with APF and APQ qualifications. Skills used in roles such as Service Improvement Manager, Assistant Service Manager and Strategic Manager at the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland, and as an International Development Consultant.

PUBLIC HEALTH INTERVENTIONS

I have strong skills in cross-agency collaboration across boundaries to improve health outcomes. I am experienced in building alliances and partnerships, to plan and work together to improve health outcomes, sharing best practice and resources. I have the ability to evaluate barriers to true collaboration and put structures in place to foster healthy team working. I am comfortable with connecting communities, individuals and movements to resources, towards improving their health outcomes.

I have experience identifying, prioritising, and managing resources at a population and systems level, to achieve equitable health outcomes and return on investment. I have sourced funding from competitive global organisations including Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Reproductive Health, Women Deliver, and the University of Southampton. I used these resources to achieve clear strategic goals, with a high level of ethical governance and transparency. My focus is always on capacity building and shared learning within the communities I support, aligning strongly with Black Feminist values.
